ENGLISH LANGUAGE LAB

In all these 23 years of my service at WPS, one thing I feel guilty about is not being able to force everyone to speak in English atleast while at school. With the weaning reading habits among the present day students, there is an urgent need to practice speaking in English to improve their communicative skills. Thus arose the need to set up an English language lab in school. It helps students to improve their listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc. I hope this lab will go a long way in helping the students score better marks not just in English but other subjects as well and also improve their communicative skills very essential for one's career. The lab is being set up and would be ready for use in the second term.

Bathukamma Bathukamma Uyyalo Bangaru Bathukamma Uyyalo........

Bathukamma is the biggest cultural festival in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. In many cities around the world also, Bathumma panduga is celebrated with lot of gusto by Telugu communities and Telangana people. Traditionally, Bathukamma festival 2010 starts on October 7th and ends on October 15th with Saddula Bathukamma in Andhra Pradesh, India. We celebrated Bathukamma on the 1st of Oct as it was the last working day for the KG classes. The little ones came in pattu skirts carrying little bathukammas in their tiny hands. They went round the bathukammas dancing to the bathukamma songs. The whole thing was a feast to the eyes.
HAPPY DASARA AND HAPPY BATHUKAMMA TO ALL!!!!!!

Mrs Vidyullatha reaches superannuation

Today (30th Sep 2010) Mrs Vidyullatha was honoured as she had reached superannuation (retirement). She has completed 22years of dedicated service at WPS as a Science teacher for High School. Everyone took part in the proceedings with mixed feelings. All were happy as she was being felicitated for her work and sad as they would miss her presence in school from tomorrow. The Director, Principal and I felicitated her on behalf of the Management. We presented her with a saree, shawl and shield. I wholeheartedly wish her and her family a joyous, peaceful and prosperous life. God bless them all !!!

STAFF CLUB BIDS FAREWELL TO MRS VIDYULLATHA

Another function was organised in the evening by the STAFF CLUB to felicitate and bid farewell to Mrs Vidyullatha. Many staff members including the Director and I spoke on the occasion and bid her farewell with a heavy heart. I wholeheartedly welcome her to a second innings as a person retires from job and not life. With her spirits running high I'm sure she will go a long way to come........GOD BLESS HER AND HER FAMILY!!!!!

THE MAJESTIC FORT BUILDING OF WPS

This was how WPS looked when I joined it 1987. I keep hearing from the ex-students that though the new building is good, they still miss the old one (they fondly address it as the "fort " building). As it was pulled down before 2000, many students haven't had a chance to see it. So, here it is for those of you who haven't seen it and also for those who miss it !!!

I began blogging only a few months back for fun. Today, I feel elated when I receive mails from many of you across the globe, that the blog helped you to connect with the school once again and recollect those memorable moments at school. It's a great feeling to know that you all remember me & cherish your time at WPS. I am not posting much these days, as I feel the regular events at school may not be of much interest to you. Looking forward to seeing you all one day !!

Sare Jahan Se Achha......(Independence Day)

With heavy rains lashing Warangal, we were very apprehensive of the Indepencence Day celebrations being carried out peacefully. But thanks to the Gods, everything went off fine and the only inconvenience was that the flag hoisting had to be done in the quadrangle instead of the stage for fear of heavy rains. Saluting the tricolour, everyone once again reminded themselves that Sare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara.....

Well, here's the link for those of you who would like to recollect all the wonderful Annual Days that you were a part of!!! But it is better to go to warangal public school in youtube as you'll be able to watch glimpses of this year's play THE MERCHANT OF VENICE too!!!

WPSians visit the school for the BLIND

The students of Class VII got a rare opportunity of visiting a School for the Blind as a part of their learning activity. They interacted with the physically challenged and were awestruck with their capabilities in various skills. The confidence that exuded from them (blind kids) I'm sure will make every student mentally strong and grateful to the ALMIGHTY for having given them EYES!!! I am glad that the Interactive way of teaching English, is indeed helping the students in more ways than one. This visit I am sure, will make every student more caring and compassionate towards the physically challenged. I pray to GOD from the bottom of my heart that they are soon blessed with SIGHT so that they get a chance to see this BEAUTIFUL WORLD. I dedicate these poems to those lovely CHILDREN OF GOD!!!

LIFE
Life comprises of joys and sorrows
So say people.
But it is full of endless tomorrows
With joys so trifle.
God looks like a poor Arithmetician
I am sure you all know.
Because for some only joys does he sanction,
Don’t you think so?
Others he has only sorrows in store
Making them pine
Giving them problems more and more
So that they resign.
I wish God learns to be impartial
Giving joys and sorrows
To his children in measures equal
To enjoys beautiful morrows.

FRIENDSHIP
Our friendship is a crossword puzzle my friend
With you and I on either end.
The boxes between us are all empty
Why they can’t be filled is a pity.
Here I am with my heart open
Waiting for you with hope often.
To listen to words that comfort me
None other can do that you can see.
Extend a hand and I’ll do that too
Come, let’s solve the puzzle me and you.
To make a word (world) beautiful
Like our friendship so wonderful.

I felt I should post all the Class photos that I could lay my hands on. We have photos beginning with Class of 1992 (the first batch of class X that I taught). I am not sure if the earlier three batches took photos or not. I hope all the WPSians cherish them. I know they are not very clear. But, that is the best I could manage. Want to have a look at them ? sans 1993 (no photo available), sans 2005 (I need to get it scanned). Will post it later.......... GO AHEAD AND VISIT MY OTHER BLOG http://www.wpsschool.blogspot.com/

FAREWELL

All through my 23 years of service at WPS, I have seen hundreds of students being bade goodbye by the class IX students and the school, only to enter into a new world. March 1st was one such day and it was no different from the earlier years. The outgoing class X was given a warm farewell. I wish every student of the 2010 batch the very best and hope that they bring laurels to school like their seniors did and make us all PROUD.

SENIOR ANNUAL DAY 15TH FEB 2010

Presenting an English Play on the School Annual Day has always been my passion. We wanted to try something different this time. Thus came up the idea of staging the most challenging play of my career i.e., 'THE MERCHANT OF VENICE' by 'Shakespeare'. With the limited choice of students at hand, I was at first apprehensive about the outcome. But I must confess, that it turned out to be a stupendous success and acclaimed by one and all present. This turned out to be the best English Play that was ever put up on WPS stage (Director's words). I owe this success to the support that I received from Mrs Madhuvanthi, English Faculty.

EDUCATIONAL FAIR BY UKG

A unique Educational fair was organised by the UKG children . It was a feast to the eyes to watch the little ones explain about their exhibits to the visitors. I hope the seniors will take inspiration from them and do better during the next exhibition.
The tiny tots have proved that WARANGAL PUBLIC SCHOOL is indeed a school with a difference. WELL DONE!!! KEEP IT UP!!!

holi celebrations in school

It has been our tradition to celebrate festivals of all religions in school, a day before the actual festival. We strongly believe that this teaches the little ones religious tolerance apart from respecting other religions. The tiny tots look forward to the celebration and enjoy every bit of it by taking part in it. They are also given a small gift and some snacks to make the celebration complete. They treasure these gifts and display them with pride. Festival of colours HOLI was celebrated on 26th Feb and the little ones and their teachers had a terrific time.

JUNIOR SCHOOL ANNUAL DAY 12th Dec 2009

JUNIOR SCHOOL ANNUAL DAY
Annual Day function is always the most awaited event in our school, which is celebrated with great joy and excitement. It is celebrated every alternate year. We usually celebrate the annual day for the whole school. But this time it was decided to have two Annual Days. One for Juniors and another for Seniors. The junior school annual day was scheduled for 1st December, 2009 but due to the disturbance in the State, it was postponed and everyone was sad and upset. After a long wait it was finally held on 12th December, 2009. The parents and students were very happy with the programme. The Annual Day celebrations went on for three and half (3 ½) hours. The evening show started by 5.30 p.m and ended by 9.00 p.m. By 5.30 the V.I.Ps occupied the chairs on the dais and singers began the show with Vandemataram.
Our Director Sri V.Nageshwar Rao, spoke on the occasion and his words were very thought provoking. He said that he came up with the idea of two Annual Days as he felt juniors were not getting equal chance to perform on the stage as seniors did. He felt that every one in the school should be an all-rounder. He advised the students to improve all the skills to succeed in life, as only bookish knowledge was not sufficient. Then he spoke about the language. He said that English is not everything. He wanted that every child should know Hindi - Well, English – Better and be Excellent in Mother Tongue. He also spoke about the burden that the children bring to the school and the necessity to reduce it. He then ended his speech by reporting the progress made during the last one year.
The cultural programme started with Vinayaka Stuthi. The show was a blend of a variety of items like plays, skits, songs, instrumental music, jokes, dances, etc. The dances presented by the Tiny Tots of K.G. section were a feast to the eyes. The patriotic dance “My name is Madhuri….” awakened the patriotic spirit embedded in each one present there. The folk dance “Laire Laire….” enthralled one and all.
The dances “pachaga perigee”, “tandanana,” “bharatamataku jejelu”, “telugu bhasha”, “bhangra” entertained one and all. These dances were based on different themes like pollution, patriotism, devotion etc,.
The plays in English, Telugu and Hindi won thunderous applause from the audience. Aishwarya of IIID in the role of Dharmaiah’s wife attracted the attention of everyone in the audience making them spellbound. In fact every student involved in the plays portrayed their acting skills to the best of their ability and were admired by everyone. The Joint Collector of the District Mrs. Vakati Karuna who watched the entire 3 ½ hours programme was full of praise for each and every item.
The whole programme was a stupendous success and each and every student and teacher took an active part in it. What made the programme so good was the punctuality maintained. Considering the difficulty involved in training the little ones, no amount of praise is enough for the members of staff who put in two months of hard work and their role is appreciable.
The Director congratulated and complimented the students, staff members, Vice-Principal and Principal for their efforts and admitted that it was the best Annual Day that we have ever had.
